We need water. I’ve lived through a number of extended droughts and this is the first one that scared me. Its raining now and I am outside crying.

Where are you? We finally got some decent rain this weekend. Things were getting pretty dusty on my bike trails.

I don’t know how badly you need water when your picture is of a swimming pool...

I looked into the research, and it turns out, if you use a pool cover to minimize evaporation losses then your pool uses about as much water as if it were the same size irrigated lawn (which is also a huge waste of water). Consensus was that a pool only increases your water usage by around 25%. Also, get a pool cover if you don’t have one. They end up saving you money over a relatively short timeframe due to the decreases in water usage.

Rain does not mean the end of a draught. Arizona has been in a draught 21 of the 29 years I’ve been alive. Outside of Phoenix, people in AZ, for the most part, know how to live in a draught. If CA ever experienced a two decade draught it would turn in Mad Max.

This is the reservoir near my parents’ place:

It’s not supposed to look like that, should be underwater almost all the way to the trees. Boston area needs all the rain it can get (though did rain some this weekend).

Rain is a good thing. Add something about corn and whiskey yourself.

Yeah, but look, he’s clearly got an algal bloom as the pH changes from the drought that’s turning the water pink.

While I’d say it wasn’t the best picture choice, I still think one can be empathetic. Fresno is in the San Joaquin valley where farming is very important. Even if he’s not directly a farmer, which the backyard pool in a residential neighborhood implies, a drought in a farming community affects everyone. Admittedly, Fresno isn’t some small farm town, but I’m willing to cut the guy some slack.

I wish there was a way to export water to CA from SC. Hurricane Matthew fucked the inland of the coastal regions up. Several places are still underwater. An entire town may be bulldozed due to flooding. Y’all can have some.
